YORK
RITE OF TEXAS
Higher Masonic Education is divided in to two primary paths in
which each Mason has the right to follow. They are The SCOTTISH
RITE and The YORK RITE. Melrose has a YORK RITE Body located here
at Chrisman Road. York Rite is divided into three parts; Chapter
(Capitalar - Royal
Arch Masons), Council (Crypic
- Royal And Select Masters) & Commandery (Chivalric
- Knights Templar).
Below are
the three bodies located here at Melrose. They have not agreed to
sponsor this DeMolay Chapter but many of their members are also
members of Melrose Masonic Lodge and Melrose Order of Eastern
Star and have shown their support through these organizations.

North Houston Chapter is referred to as a Capitalar Order and is
composed of Royal Arch Masons. There are four degree in this
body. They are Mark Master, Past
Master, Most Excellent Master, and lastly Royal
Arch Mason. Each degree teaches the master mason about his
first three degrees and takes him further along the path to
gaining additional light in Masonry. North Houston Chapter meets
at Melrose Masonic Lodge on the 2nd Friday of every odd number
month. Masons who wish to advance to
Council and / or Comandery must complete their study of Chapter
first.

North
Houston Council like Chapter is addition training in Masonry. It
is referred to as Crypic due to the secrets that are taught in
the degrees. There are three degrees in Council that should be
completed before advancing to the Commandery. The degrees are;
Royal Master, Select Master, and Super Excellent Master. Of these
three degrees Super Excellent Master is only given once per year.
It is given as a large group school of instruction in either Waco
or Ft.Worth. It is not required to advance to the Orders in the
Knights Templar ( Comandery). North Houston Council meets on the
the 2nd Friday of every even number month.
Melrose Comandery is
referred to as Chivalric, because the Knights Templar of old was
Honest, Dedicated, Bold, and Forthright. The Comandery is based
on the old knights from the 10th century. The training that is
received covers the much of what you learn about Jacques DeMolay
and the other Grand Master from that time period.
The degree are called orders and there are three of them. They
are; Order of the Red Cross (where you are made Knight Companion
of the Red Cross), The Order of Malta (where you are trained and
educated to become a Knight of Malta), and the pentacle is the
Order of the Temple (after this order you are Knighted and join
the rakes of the Knights Templar).
The Comandery meets on the 2nd
Saturday of every month. The drill team meets every Sunday
evening to practice. The Melrose Comandery is referred to as a
Class A Team and has placed 1st at all competitions for the last
5 years.
